Out of State hunters and Chronic Wasting Disease

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has released new guidelines for hunters this year that can impact both Idaho hunters and those looking to hunt in the State. The new regulations affect what parts of harvested deer, elk, and moose, can be transported in and out of Washington.
These regulations can impact Idaho hunters, as well as other states, looking to help stop the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD.)
Pictured below is an Elk in the final stages of CWD.
Only the following items may be brought into Washington:
Meat that has been de-boned in the state or province where it was harvested and is imported as boned-out meat,
Skulls and antlers with velvet removed, antlers attached to the skull plate, or upper canine teeth- including buglers, whistlers, and ivories- from which all soft tissue has been removed,
Hides or capes without heads attached,
Tissue imported for use by a diagnostic or research laboratory, and Finished taxidermy mounts.
Several other states with large hunting populations are looking to adopt similar measures to help stop the spread of CWD.
