ARPGs are all about the loot, and Diablo 4 is no different. In your journey across the regions of Sanctuary, you will find a plethora of items, and let's be honest; you will want to get rid of them or upgrade your current gear asap in Diablo 4 every time you find a new, shiny drop. That's where Diablo 4's salvaging system comes into play.

This guide explains everything you need to know about salvaging items in Diablo 4, from how you can actually do it to the crafting/upgrade materials gained from salvaging different types and qualities of items.

Update on 12 July 2023: We've updated this article with the latest information about salvaging items in Diablo 4.

How To Salvage Items in Diablo 4

Before you can start salvaging items, you will need to unlock the Blacksmith in Diablo 4 at level 10 by completing a Priority Quest. From here, you can freely salvage items by using various blacksmiths across Sanctuary, situated in towns, settlements, and even after clearing Strongholds.

Diablo 4 makes day-to-day salvaging of unwanted items easy, with a button that allows you to salvage all items (ignores Uniques, Legendaries, or altered items). Furthermore, Blizzard has added the option for players to mark items as Junk. This means you can quickly and easily salvage any items you choose without any restrictions in place.

It is important to note that items you salvage automatically get their transmog added to your list. Furthermore, if Gems are socketed into items, they will be added to your inventory after salvaging said items.
